HELPFUL TIP:

Conflict is your story’s secret sauce, supplying tension, relationship friction, and complications to a character’s journey. It comes in a million different forms, so identify the obstacles and problems that will hit your character the hardest by using the Character Builder to uncover their primary insecurities, fears , and desires. Don’t forget to include everyday conflict scenarios that will frustrate them and keep the pressure high.

NOTES:
This entry refers to circumstances in which the character has been bound to an intensely negative, long-lasting malediction. For a situation in which the character experiences the results of shorter, less serious sorcery, see BEING PLACED UNDER A SPELL.

EXAMPLES:
Being condemned to a premature death
Everything the character touches disintegrating
Being enslaved to a witch or sorcerer for all eternity
Being doomed to having all romantic relationships fail
The character being transformed into an animal and losing their humanity
Making a trade with a demon: something beneficial in exchange for the character's soul
Stealing an object that's cursed, bringing a lifetime of bad luck for the character
A provoked spirit haunting the character for the rest of their life
Disturbing sacred ground and suffering extreme illness or death 
A curse that permanently changes the character's gender

MINOR COMPLICATIONS:
The character not feeling like themselves 
The character losing their appetite
The character having gaps in their memory and being unable to remember certain periods of time
Having to find a way to break the curse
Suffering a wound or scar from it
Having to hide the curse from others
Avoiding circumstances that would trigger the curse
Temporary physical ailments or afflictions related to the curse
Having nightmares
Never knowing when the demon, ghost, or responsible party will reappear
A precious heirloom being cursed or destroyed
