HELPFUL TIP:

Conflict is your story’s secret sauce, supplying tension, relationship friction, and complications to a character’s journey. It comes in a million different forms, so identify the obstacles and problems that will hit your character the hardest by using the Character Builder to uncover their primary insecurities, fears , and desires. A character not being chosen to represent their school at a debate competition
A middle school athlete not making a school team (volleyball, wrestling, basketball, etc.)
A professional player's contract not being renewed
A pro golfer suffering a devastating injury that ends their career
A gymnast underperforming and not qualifying for the Olympics
An athlete being disqualified from competing for taking performance enhancers
Being kicked off a team for cheating or unsportsmanlike behavior
Being ousted from a robotics team for getting into a heated fight with the other members
The character being cut for personal, political, or religious convictions that differ from others' on the team

MINOR COMPLICATIONS:
The character not understanding why they were cut or didn't make the team
Losing social connections with teammates
Facing teasing or ridicule from former teammates or fans
Having to confront the coach for an explanation
Joining a new team that's less competitive and below the character's skill level
Filing a complaint against the organization to try and be reinstated
Being at loose ends, not knowing what to do with extra time without practices or competitions
Losing income from sponsorship or endorsements
Missing out on a year of development as the character waits for the next opportunity to try out
The character's ego being knocked down a notch or two
Missing out on travel or large competition opportunities offered to members of the team
Having to stop wearing clothing or other items associated with the team
Having to attend events as a spectator instead of a team member
