HELPFUL TIP:

A deeply embedded fear often stems from trauma, so it can be helpful to explore emotional wounds that may be a factor. Your character might also become risk-averse, which can create problems in their relationships and limit their fulfillment. And for a character to achieve their story goal, they must overcome any fear-based thinking that's holding them back. The Character Builder is a great resource for pulling all these factors together.
NOTES:
The fear of extinction is very similar to the fear of death, but on a larger scale. A character in this situation could worry about their race or species being annihilated in an apocalyptic event. They may also be scared that their culture or legacy will be targeted and eradicated. Because of the high stakes involved, this fear can drive a character to extremes in an effort to avoid extinction.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:
Speaking out against colonization and the erasure of cultures
Studying lost cultures to identify the signs leading to extinction
Becoming an activist in causes that address the causes of possible extinction (environmentalism, space exploration, etc.)
The character actively passing their culture, beliefs, and ideals to the next generation
Preserving their culture through art, food, stories, or architecture
Being triggered by apocalyptic movies
Stocking food, resources, or weapons in case of a cataclysm
Having an escape plan in place
Gathering a tight-knit group to survive together as a remnant
Praying fervently for preservation
Dreaming about or pursuing extreme escape options (space travel, virtual realities, etc.)
Complaining that younger generations have lose their connection to the past
Eagerly sharing pieces of their culture with others (through music, clothing, traditions, etc.)
