CHOOSE MY PLAN

HELPFUL TIP:

There’s probably a good reason why your character chose their career. Think about how certain talents and skills, a dominant positive or negative trait, or even an emotional wound might have influenced this decision. And once they're on the job, don't forget about the many work-related conflict scenarios you can throw at them to create tension and add complications.
OVERVIEW:
The roles of a judge vary widely depending on his or her jurisdiction. Regardless of the location and the type of work they do, their duties may include the following: listening to arguments and analyzing documents to determine whether cases deserve to go to trial, presiding over jury selection and providing jurors with instructions, overseeing court proceedings, ensuring proper legal procedures are followed, examining evidence and deciding if it is legal and proper, researching legal issues and applying the law to reach judgments, imposing penalties on those found guilty, negotiating and resolving administrative disputes, rendering decisions in legal disputes, granting search and arrest warrants, setting bail or release terms, performing marriage ceremonies, and issuing marriage licenses.

NECESSARY TRAINING:
Because legal experience is usually required, most judges earn a law degree and practice for a number of years as a lawyer. While they are becoming familiar with the law and how the judicial system works, they will also be building a reputation and networking with influential people, since judges must be elected or appointed to their positions. Continuing education will be important throughout a judge's career, so they can stay abreast of changes in the law and courtroom proceedings.
